•  What Should I Submit? We are looking to see the best representation of your personal composition style and interests in your application. Pick your favorite pieces, or ones that show off your interests! While we will commission a string quartet from you if selected, we do not need you to limit yourself to small chamber ensemble works.

  • I don’t identify as LGBTQ+. Should I still apply? While we are only looking to commission an LGBTQ+ composer for 2020, we will be adjusting our Commissioning Initiative each year to commission pieces from a wide range of underserved or underrepresented composers (which may in the future include you)!

  • Do I need to live in/near the San Francisco Bay Area to be considered? No! While we would love for you to attend the workshop and final concert in person, we also are fine communicating with you over Skype and email, and it is not required for you to attend in person.

  • I have a string quartet already written that I would like Astraeus to perform. Should I submit it? That’s awesome, however we are looking to commission a new work through our Commissioning Initiative. However, if you have an existing work for string quartet that you would like us to play, you may send it our way through our email address and we will consider adding it to our program for the following season!
